FSSH Associate Professor and Canada Research Chair earns paper award from Canadian Journal of Law and Society

Dr. Kanika Samuels-Wortley, Associate Professor, Faculty of Social Science and Humanities, and Canada Research Chair in Systemic Racism, Technology and Criminal Justice, recently received recognition from the Canadian Journal of Law and Society for the best English-language article for 2024. Titled The ‘Unusual’ Suspect – Race, Class, and Crime: A critical discourse case study of Nova Scotia’s Mass Casualty Event, the article highlights how systemic biases related to race, gender and socio-economic indicators shape who is considered suspicious or harmless within the justice system.
