 2024 fall important information

Monday, September 16

  • Fall semester fees due.
  • Last day to add courses for the fall semester.
  • Last day to drop courses and receive a 100 per cent refund of tuition and ancillary fees for the fall semester.
Monday, September 30
  • Last day to withdraw from fall 2024 semester courses without academic consequences (i.e., without receiving a grade). Courses dropped after this date will be recorded on the academic transcript with a grade of W to indicate withdrawal.
  • Last day to drop courses and receive a 50 per cent refund of tuition fees, for the fall semester.
Monday, December 2

  • Last day to withdraw from fall 2024 semester courses. Active fall semester courses will be graded by instructors.

Your academic year at Ontario Tech University follows a schedule of important dates. You are responsible for knowing and meeting all deadlines found in the academic schedule, including fee payment dates and course add/drop dates.

Ucard Requirements for Exams
  • Your digital Ucard can only be used as an ID for exams and tests when there is an accompanying photo. Without a photo, your digital Ucard is invalid and will not be considered an acceptable form of ID.
  • A valid government-issued photo ID that is in English is another acceptable form of ID.

Ways to join the line:

  • Text ONTARIOTECH to 289.207.6526.
  • Visit the Ontario Tech mobile app and select the QLess card on the homepage.
  • Check-in on-site at the Office of the Registrar.

Note: Please arrive on campus no later than 30 minutes prior to closing hours, regardless of your estimated QLess wait time. If the Office of the Registrar closes at 4 p.m., you should be on campus no later than 3:30 p.m.

 Printing on campus

Default network password

Your default network password is your birth date in MMDDYY format. You must change it before you can access your student email (.net) account, Canvas and Wi-fi on campus. 

Name/gender change

If you're seeking to update your legal name, preferred first name or gender, please complete the name/gender change form. The length of time to complete these requests is normally three working days. During peak times, processing times may be longer.


 General announcements

  • Did you know that the university features a number of Indigenous artists across campus? You can view a large collection in Charles Hall at our downtown Oshawa campus location. Or you can take a virtual tour, in partnership with Oshawa Tourism by downloading the Oshawa Tourism SmartGuide app today.  Emergency and maintenance 

  • There are no emergency or maintenance messages at this time.                                       

 Academic support

  • The Student Learning Centre has a variety of services to offer, including peer tutoring, math, science and writing supports. You can book an appointment on the online or visit the website to find drop-in times.

  • Writing Specialists offer a broad range of academic writing workshops throughout the year. Writing workshops are designed to provide guidance about academic writing expectations in university. Writing workshops are interactive, focus on specific topics and can be booked online. 

 Career readiness

  • Explore your employment identity with our Dungeons and Dragons Employment workshops! This five-week workshop will be held on Tuesdays from October 22 to November 20, and gives you the opportunity to build your own Dungeons and Dragons character and journey through quests that explore skills related to employment and employment identity.   • Mitch and Leslie Frazer Faculty of Education students: Are you seeking information or looking to secure a teaching position? Connect with local employers in the field of education by registering to attend our Future Teachers event on Wednesday, November 6 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Charles Hall, Atrium. Register now.

  • The Career Centre has services available to support you in various ways. Book an appointment on the Student Life Portal for any of our one-on-one supports including career counselling and employment advising.

 Community

  • You’re invited to participate in an optional research study titled, Teaching and Learning Experiences and Sense of Belonging of STEM Students with Disabilities. Participation is entirely voluntary and there is no obligation nor need to participate if you do not want to do so. Participants that complete the interview will receive a $20 Amazon gift card. Complete the survey. 
  • The Ambassador program is looking for you to get involved, positively contribute to the campus community and become leaders on our campus! Register for Level 1 Ambassador training to become an Ambassador, Peer Leader or Ridgeback Mentor. To register for training and see what dates are available, visit the Ambassador web page.

  • Conversation Café is an opportunity to meet international students and learn about other cultures as well as a chance to practice English speaking and listening skills. New this year, join us three times a week on: 
    • Wednesdays from 3:30 to 5 p.m. in Shawenjigewining Hall, Room 223.
    • Thursdays from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in Charles Hall, Room 219, starting.
    • Thursdays from 3:30 to 5 p.m. in Shawenjigewining Hall, Room 223.

    Register in advance if possible or sign in before you join.

  • Pride space is back—bi-weekly starting on Friday, September 20 from 6 to 8 p.m. in Shawenjigewining Hall, Room 020/021. Pride Spaces fosters a sense of community, belonging, and support by providing a safe space for students to connect, share experiences, and engage in meaningful discussions.

  • RISE (Respecting Individuals, Supporting Equity) sessions are back for the fall semester. The RISE Program is a suite of workshops that provide training and education on what participants can do on an individual level, to foster a safer and more inclusive community at Ontario Tech.  Health and wellness

  • Trich or treat STI test drive: Join us on Thursday, October 10 from 9 a.m. to noon for giveaways, treats and the reassurance that you are in the clear of the trichy STIs that can sneak up on you. Don’t get spooked this Halloween–know your status! Learn more.
  • Embark on the Elevate Connections Journey—an eight-week support group crafted to uplift and empower students in their quest to overcome loneliness. Join us on Wednesdays from October 2 to November 20 from 1 to 2:30 p.m.

  • The LivingRoom Community Art Studio has partnered with the university to give you a creative break and enjoy some self-care. If you see the blue bus on campus, stop by for some well-deserved fun and to learn more about our campus supports and services.   • We encourage everyone in the university community to get involved in Sexual Violence and Education's programming, which aims to help eliminate all types of violence at Ontario Tech. Check out the schedule of events and resources. 

 In-course scholarships 

In-course scholarships are awarded if you achieve a minimum 3.7 GPA (on a 4.3 scale) during your previous academic year. You must be returning to a full-time study.
  • $1,500 - 4.0+ GPA
  • $1,000 - 3.7 to 3.99 GPA

 Donor awards 

There are a number of donor awards available to you. These awards are a valuable and lasting resource for many of our current students. Once you complete a General Bursary and Donor Award application, you'll be considered for funding. To apply, follow these steps:
  • Under Student Awards and Financial Aid, select apply for student aid/university works. 
  • Enter your network ID and password. 
  • Enter the applicable term and year, select continue.
  • Select the General Bursary application from the drop-down menu, select continue.
Métis Nation of Ontario Bursary Application

The Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) Métis Student Bursary Program provides bursaries to registered students who are verified Métis citizens of the Métis Nation of Ontario. Applicants will be required to consent to a citizenship verification check to confirm eligibility for these awards. Funding amounts of the bursaries are determined by the MNO, based on funding availability. If you have any questions, please direct all inquiries to: psesupport@metisnation.org.

 Student direct deposit 

We've implemented a student direct deposit option. If you're not an employee of the university, you can add, change or delete your banking information in your MyOntarioTech account. To do so, navigate to personal information, then select direct deposit information.
