Final Examinations
How to Apply:
- Contact instructor: Inform your course instructor directly about your intention to request a deferral.
- Submit forms: Complete and submit both the "Application for Deferred Final Examinations" and the "Academic Consideration" forms for each exam deferral request.
- Deferrals due to medical reasons must include the University Medical Statement. We do not accept regular doctor notes.
- The University Medical Statement must be completed no later than 24 hours of the missed exam).
Deadlines:
- Religious observances and academic conflicts: Submit both forms at least 15 working days before the first day of the examination period.
- Other reasons (e.g., bereavement, medical): Follow the standard application process as soon as you recognize the need for a deferral. Must be submitted no later than 3 working days from the missed exam.
Fees:
- If your deferral is approved, a non-refundable $45 per-exam deferral fee will be applied to your student account.
- Exceptions apply for bereavement, religious observances, or rescheduling as part of an accommodation plan (Student Accessibility).

Coursework, Tests, or Midterm Examinations
How to Apply:
- Coursework worth 20 per cent or less: Directly contact your course instructor to request consideration.
- Midterms, tests or coursework worth more than 20 per cent: Submit an Academic Consideration form.
- You must select the academic consideration form for the faculty the course belongs to.
- Note: Midterms of any weight require an Academic Consideration form.
Deadlines:
- Religious observances and academic conflicts: Submit the Academic Consideration form at least 15 business days before the examination period begins.
- Other reasons: Submit the form as soon as you recognize the need for consideration.

Registered with Student Accessibility Services (SAS)?
- Students registered with SAS requesting a deferral due to an exam schedule that conflicts with their accommodations should contact their SAS Specialist to investigate their request.
- Medical and illness-related reasons are separate from academic accommodations. Please refer to the standard application process as soon as you recognize the need for a deferral. Must be submitted no later than 3 working days from the missed exam.
