Call for Expressions of Interest for the Faculty of Social Science and Humanities Dean Search Advisory Committee

February 20, 2026

Ontario Tech building

Dear colleagues,

As many of you may be aware, Dr. Peter Stoett has decided to step down as the Dean of the Faculty of Social Science and Humanities (FSSH). Please join me in thanking Peter for his commitment and contributions to FSSH, and in wishing him all the best as he pursues research opportunities and remains an active member of the Ontario Tech Community.

In the interim, Dr. Thomas McMorrow, Associate Professor in the Faculty of Social Science and Humanities (FSSH) will step in as Dean while we begin the search process for a new FSSH Dean.

In accordance with the Policy on Senior Academic Administrative Appointments and the Faculty Dean Appointment and Renewal Procedures, I will appoint a Search Advisory Committee consisting of:

  • Five faculty members from FSSH, with at least one from each FSSH program. It is desirable that at least one member be a faculty member at the level of Senior Teaching Professor or higher;
  • One cognate Dean;
  • One tenured faculty member from a cognate discipline;
  • One FSSH graduate student;
  • One administrative staff member from FSSH;
  • One representative from Human Resources; and
  • Provost and Vice-President, Academic (as Chair).

If you are in one of the categories described above and are interested in serving on the Search Advisory Committee, please send your expression of interest to president@ontariotechu.ca by Friday March 6, 2026. In your communication, please provide a CV or resumé (condensed) and explain why you feel you would be a valuable member of the committee.

I will consider all expressions of interest and inform the Ontario Tech University community of the Search Advisory Committee membership.

Sincerely,

Dr. Steven Murphy

President and Vice-Chancellor
